Halloween Dessert Recipe: Nutella Banana Mummies!

These tasty mummy pastries are a fun dessert idea for Halloween. They are super easy to put together and can be made in advance too!

Easy 3 Ingredient Nutella Mummies are such a fun snack to make for Halloween!

All you need is a can of refrigerated Pillsbury crescent dough, Nutella, a few bananas, and some sort of edible eyeballs. Easy, right?

You can buy candy eyes, use M&M’s, chocolate chips, or create your own with frosting. Whatever you prefer! You will also want some powdered sugar and milk for a simple glaze to drizzle on at the end.

The prep for these pastries is really easy, thanks to the Pillsbury dough. If your store carries the Crescent Recipe Creations Seamless Dough Sheet, that is an even better option!

Once you’ve got the Nutella and the banana halves in the center of each dough piece, you are ready to start mummifying!

It works well to start with the very top and the very bottom strips on each side of the banana. Pull those strips down and up along the sides of the banana (as seen on the top-center mummy in the photo above). Then take the next top strips and criss-cross them over the very top of the banana for the “headpiece.” The next top strips criss-cross below a gap for the eyes (as seen on the bottom-center mummy in the photo above). Finish criss-crossing the dough all the way down.

I roll out the dough on a handy silicone baking mat. Then all I have to do when the mummies are ready to bake is transfer the mat (with the mummies still on it) onto a baking sheet.

Once they are baked and cooled, mix up a simple glaze and pipe or drizzle it on. Then just add some eyes before serving!

Cook Time: 12 minutes

Yield: 6 mummies

Nutella Mummies Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 can Pillsbury Crescent dough or seamless sheet
  • about 12 tablespoons Nutella
  • 2 bananas
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk
  • 12 candy eyes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Pinch together seams of the crescent dough (if needed) and roll out to about 11 x 8 inches. Cut the dough into 6 equal squares. Lightly score each square into 3 equal vertical columns (without cutting through the dough). Cut horizontal strips, about 1/4 inch wide, down each side section of each square. Spoon a couple of tablespoons of Nutella down the middle sections, leaving about 1/2 inch on both the top and bottom.
  3. Slice the bananas in half lengthwise and width-wise. Then place banana slices on top of the Nutella.
  4. Bring the very top strips of dough down along the sides of the banana, and the very bottom strips up along the sides. Then take the next top strips and cross them over the top of the banana to form the "headpiece." Leaving a gap for the eyes, cross the next top strips over. Continue criss-crossing the dough strips over the banana until finished.
  5. Bake until golden brown, about 12-15 minutes. Remove from pan and let cool to room temperature.
  6. Mix powdered sugar with enough milk to form a glaze and then drizzle it over the mummies. Let it dry to the touch, add eyes, and then serve.
